Reps ask JAMB to extend UTME registration for 2 weeks

The House of Representatives has urged the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board  (JAMB) to extend the registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination  (UTME) for two weeks.

This followed a motion Thursday by Hon.  Bello Shinkafi who recalled that registration for the 2024 UTME which commenced from 15″ January ended on 26″ February, 2024.

“We are all aware of the painful economic situation prevailing in the country. As a result, many families have been constrained from registering their wards, by this timeline,” he said.

The lawmaker  said the online registration which constituted setback to non conversant candidates who anticipated the examination participation could not achieve this core objective because of imminent deadline, “which requires your legislative attention and intervention”.

He  stated that: “Without extension of the registration, many candidates will not be able to register and participate in the exercise and that means there will not be a wider coverage and participation in this year’s UTME examination in Nigeria.

“Your quick response to the extension of time by 2 weeks will encourage the parents of these candidates to register their children.”
