Rep Bala Ikara, it’s time to take a bow

The 2019 general election is around the corner and politicians have been making preparation, consultation, scheming or distortion of agreement to remain in power.
In Ikara/ Kubau federal constituency of Kaduna state, crisis is brewing in the APC.
The member, House of Representatives, Yusuf Bala Ikara, insisted to contest for the third term against a gentleman agreement reached between the two local governments.
The member would fi nish his second term tenure in 2019.Based on the rotational arrangement, Ikara will allow Kubau local government to produce his successor.
This kind of arrangements has been in practise in Giwa/Birni Gwari federal constituency and Kudan/Makarfi .
It has assisted greatly towards dousing tension and promoting equity among the contenders in the constituency.
It is therefore pertinent to call the attention of the member to respect this zoning for equity, justice and fair play.
Kubau local government is blessed with competent, resourceful and skilled people.
The local government has produced people of timber and calibre who carved niche for themselves in both public and private lives.
I believe the area would present a credible and saleable candidate.
If the candidate wins, he will provide good leadership for the benefits of the two local governments.
What baffl es many people is the lacklustre attitude of the member.
He has proved both in words and deeds, he is not ready to abide by the terms of the agreement entered with him in 2015.There is real price to be paid if the member reneges from the promise.
First, the opposition PDP will win the election with relatively ease.
His action will further divide the party and fuel anti party activities by the people of Kubau local government who will feel short-changed.
The Kaduna state chairman of APC should as a matter of urgency wade into the problem to bring it under control.
For Yusuf Bala Ikara, it is better to quit when the ovation is loud.
