The House of Representatives Tuesday commenced effort to establish a comprehensive legal framework for tourism and hospitality, as well as that of travel and tour management companies.
The two separate bills, sponsored by the member representing Jos North/Bassa federal constituency, Hon. Daniel Asama Ago, has passed first reading.
According to a statement by Brian Lang, director of media to Hon Hon Asama, said the two bills sought to establish the Chartered Institute for Tourism and Hospitality of Nigeria 2025, and Council for the regulation of travel and tour management companies.
“These bills aim to establish a comprehensive legal framework to regulate the diverse and expanding activities of the tourism and hospitality sector.
“This initiative seeks to address long-standing regulatory gaps by introducing standards and best practices to empower stakeholders and enhance professional competence,” Hon Asama said.
He said when fully passed and assented to, these bills would transform the tourism sector, foster sustainable development and ensure the industry contributed significantly to Nigeria’s economic diversification and growth.
