Remove varsity lecturers’ salaries from IPPIS, TSA, OAU council chair tells FG

The chairman, of Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun state, Professoer Siyan Oyeweso, Tuesday called on the federal government to remove salaries of varsity lecturers and their endowment fund from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and Treasury Single Account (TSA).

He expressed surprise that the directive of President Bola Tinubu has not been complied with on the removal of varsity lecturers’ salaries from the IPPIS.

Speaking with journalists at the OAU Senate Building, Monday, after his first inaugural council meeting, Oyeweso warned that the existing system may prevent individuals and organisations from lending support to the university.

“We appeal to the federal government to remove the university endorsement fund, as well as a research grant from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to allow for efficiency in the research fund and for investment to yield returns.

“Keeping endowment fund in TSA is not useful as it will not be allowed for investment that could yield returns. No individual or corporate organisation would invest in research or endowment funds if it’s kept dormant in an account for many months or years.

“It is unfortunate that some persons have decided to disobey the directive of the president to remove salaries of varsity lecturers’ from IPPIS.

“The directive that lecturers’ salaries be removed from the system has not been fully complied with, some persons have violated the directive.

“It is important that the presidency set up a committee to investigate why the directive was not fully complied with in the first place and those behind such action should be dealt with to deter reoccurrence,” Oyeweso said.
