The Managing Director/CEO of Cyrus Acoustic, Peter Agaba, Thursday, appealed to the federal government to always reevaluate the architectural designs in the country.
He stated this in Abuja while calling on the Nigerian government to take proactive actions to reevaluate the cost of architectural designs, saying that architectural design industry in Nigeria is currently facing challenges as clients are increasingly questioning the cost-value of services provided.
He said a significant number of clients perceive the fees charged by architects as high without a corresponding appreciation of the expertise, innovation, and time invested in the designs.
“This is alarming, considering the pivotal role that architects play in shaping to built environment,” he stated.
He added that the federal government, Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA), and the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) need to take note of this and actively address the issue by fostering greater awareness and education on the value of professional architectural services.
He suggested that setting a transparent, regulated fee guidelines and advocating for the integrity of architectural work, could help the bodies to realign client expectations and ensuring that, the profession remains both respected and financially sustainable as well as benefit architectural industry as a whole.
Agaba noted that the decline marks a 0.90 percent drop in the value of the naira against the dollar, making it more expensive for Nigerians to purchase foreign goods and services.
He observed that it has gotten to a point were Nigerians could stop importing materials.
