Rector promises standard for Sokoto Poly

Rector, Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto, Professor Aminu Ibrahim has vowed to maintain the highest standard required of a tertiary institution, saying polytechnics were the back bone of socio-economic development of the 20th century.

The rector, who made the commitment in an interview with newsmen in Sokoto, reiterated his determination to maintain standard and assured that the polytechnic would engage in full fledged academic activities to promote scientific, technological and entrepreneurial skills.

”Our vision is to nurture a polytechnic of high academic excellence in the areas of science, engineering, technology and humanities, for the ultimate purpose of producing relevant skilled manpower needed for the economic and technological development of the nation.

”The management under my watch will leave no stone unturned in ensuring maintenance of the academic standard, which the institution is known for decades.

”We will maintain standard to provide quality manpower in science, technology and humanities for the ultimate purpose of providing relevant and skilled manpower needed for the economic technological development of the nation through researches and community service,” he said.

”There is the need to encourage youth on entrepreneurship education to prepare and build their potentials and skills which will give them opportunity to establish small and big businesses so as to create an economically viable society for the welfare of all.

”This cannot be achieved without people being given a comprehensive training in technical and entrepreneurship education” the Rector pointed out.

On the progress made so far, Professor Ibrahim said a lot have been achieved in areas such as academic excellence, infrastructural development, external linkages, staff welfare and promotion as well as students’ welfare.

He said it was heartwarming to note that, the institution has recorded remarkable successes as it was currently running 16 National Diploma programmes accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) across the 7 colleges being run by the institution.
