Re: Kano governor’s 360 degrees about turn

My column with above title published on June 7, 2023 elicited a number of reactions. Here are some of them.

It is an act of political immaturity and regrettable.

Muazu Ibrahim

An overbearing governor

Yakubu Aruwa

We don’t like the truth, so we often misinterpret it in Nigeria. Using public properties for compensation of allies is a crime against the public. It should be recovered

David Adejo

He should turn the hotel building to school instead of demolition, if not bad intentions and a planned act of vendetta

Hamisu Abdullahi

There is really no sense in the demolition of the already completed structure which was built with public funds. Even if the erstwhile governor had appropriated it to himself or crony it would have been better to take it back and put it into public use.

Ginger

The new governor needed to follow the due process of serving the requisite notices on the ‘’owners’’ and not embarked on nocturnal and clandestine destruction of such properties.

MystaMan

Today is for you and tomorrow is for someone else.

Haruna Gabo

I am not against recovering of government’s property. What I’m against is the destruction of valuable properties instead of putting them into a proper use.

Mancele

Kwankwaso cannot be seen as ‘’the emerging strongman of Northern Nigeria politics’’, as you stated, not with just one state in the North. And the new governor is laying a bad foundation for destruction and counter destructions because he is only going to be there for four years, at most eight years

Black Man

Abba is just dancing to the tune of Kwankwaso because of his loyalty to him. Kwankwaso is observing his third term in disguise.

Ganduje should be blamed for all that is wrought happening in Kano state. Kwanwasao broke the record of using his deputy to succeed him, only for Ganduje to bite the finger that brought him to power,

Anonymous

It is important for our politicians to always remember that power is transient and there should be a time limit within the life of an administration beyond which they are not permitted to make new appointments, employments  or sign contracts on behalf of the government

Obekezie Frank

An agreement was signed with developers that is binding on Kano state government whether he likes it or not and he will pay compensation to the company adequately. That is a waste of scarce resources of the state.

Wondergate

It is not vengeance; it is recovering public properties illegally sold to wife, biological son and daughters, political party members and friends. The five-star hotel was built over the functional institute for Hospitality and Tourism belonging to the University of Science and Technology, Wudil. The masses of Kano state need more schools not luxury hotels.

Basiru Yakasai

Madam, your write up on Kano was very good and well researched. Please note that Kwankwaso was not the first governor to have handed over to his deputy after his tenure ended. Former Zamfara governor, Sani Yerima handed over to his then deputy, Shinkafa in 2003

Mustapha Shehu

I just finished reading your article on Abba. I have a reservation you are not being optimistic 08107921993

Re: I feel sorry for President

Tinubu  Published May 31, 2023

Dear Madam.

You gave a succinct overview of our current situation. In the event of any transition, my fellow compatriots make it a habit of disparaging the departing government and glorifying the in-coming one. Nigerians love to fill themselves with high hopes and unrealistic expectations.

We have consistently refused to outgrow this ritualistic infantilism. The energetic, exuberant middle aged governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu of yesteryears is not the frail, aged president Bola Ahmed Tinubu of today, and Lagos of yesterday is not the Nigeria of today.

This is not to sound pessimistic, but coming to terms with the reality.

May the Almighty God assist him in rekindling the hopes of disheartening Nigerians.
