Ramadan: Start looking for new moon from Friday – Sultanate

Muslims in the country have been advised to start looking for the new moon of Ramadan form today the Friday, 29th Sha’aban, 1435 Hijrat and report the sighting of the moon to the nearest Village/ District heads for upward communication to his Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Sultanate Council, Alhaji Abdulkadir Sa’idu Tambawal, in Sokoto.

The statement said: “’This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Friday, June 27, 2014, which is equivalent to 29th day of Sha’aban 1435 Hijrat shall be the  day to look for new moon of Ramadan  1435 Hijrat.
‘”Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for new moon of Ramadan on Friday and report its sighting to the nearest

District or Village Heads for onward communication to his Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto.”
The statement did not, however, give the telephone numbers to be contacted in the event of sighting the moon.
