The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has concluded plans to begin verification of pensioners of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and its mobile subsidiary (MTEL) under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) from January next year.
A statement by its management said the exercise will take place across the six geo-political zones of the country.
According to the statement, the verification exercise is pursuant to the payment of pension benefits to eligible retirees of the agencies, following the approval from the Ministry of Finance that appropriate benefits be paid to retirees who are qualified.
It disclosed that the Directorate has been working with the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to get the nominal role, as well as other required information on qualified pensioners of the defunct NITEL.
The statement further urged qualified retirees to get required documents ready ahead of the exercise, adding that the directorate was committed to ensuring that the sick also get their entitlement.
“The Directorate is ready to attend to the sick and infirmed in their locations, and are therefore advised to send an application for mobile verification to include pensioners’ contact details, photo copies of all documents as listed and certified Doctor’s report for such services,” it explained.
