The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of two Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), just as two Superintendents of Police (SPs) and two Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) were dismissed.
A statement by the commission’s Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ferdinand Ekpe, said the decision was taken at its 5th plenary meeting held on June 4 and 9, 2014, in Abuja.
He said the newly promoted AIGs are: Chris Olakpe and Grace Chita Okudo, adding that both promotions were with effect from June 4, and June 9, 2014, respectively, while the discharged officers include SPs Nyong Enefiok and Offu Ukereke; Deputy Superintendent (DSPs) Eteng Bassey and Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Mohammed Usman Kashim.
Similarly, an ASP was compulsorily retired for offences against police discipline; six officers were reduced in rank; 10 were severely reprimanded, while others were reprimanded or issued Letters of Advice.
Also seven DCPs were promoted to the substantive rank of CPs. They are: Victor Ojo; Elias Okafor Wayemeru; Paul Okafor; Henry Adebayo Fadairo; Stella Udosen; Felicia Noelle; and Ovie Votenisky Oyokomino.
The commission also elevated 12 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to DCP while 21 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) were promoted to ACP, just as 27 SPs were promoted to the rank of CSP. Also 15 DSPs were promoted to the rank of SP; 129 ASPs were elevated to the rank of DSP, similarly, 20 who were omitted during the last Inspectors promotion were promoted to the rank of ASP.
The Assistant Director further disclosed that the promotions of ASPs to CSPs were with effect from February 19, 2014, while the others were with effect from June 9, 2014.
He said chairman of the commission, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, while congratulating the newly promoted officers, enjoined them to redouble their efforts in the discharge of their assignments.
