We’re proud of our legal pedigree – Ganduje

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has described the position of Kano in the parlance of justice as formidable and great, dating back to pre-colonial days, up till the time the colonial masters set foot on Nigeria’s soil. Declaring open a one-day meeting of members of the Executive Council, of the Nigeria Bar Association(NBA) held at the Coronation Hall, Kano Government House yesterday, Ganduje said before the advent of British colonialism, Kano had been known to be operating a legal system of its own, having succeeded in establishing courts, where intractable legal issues were deliberated upon.
He said the state was also endowed with a notable cream of respected legal practitioners who had carved a niche in the revered legal profession, adding that his administration had also taken the bull by the horns in repositioning the justice sector on a promising pedestal.
Speaking earlier, the National President, NBA, Barrister, Abubakar Balarabe Mohammed, said with the dismal state of the nation in the present democratic dispensation, Nigeria was drifting to the precipice as a result of the slow pace posture of the federal government in effecting crucial decisions that bordered on national interest. He said the NBA was deeply disturbed by the alarming spate of wanton killings being perpetrated by some unpatriotic citizens in some notable fl ash points such as Benue, Taraba and Zamfara states.
