It is a different era of technology advancement and the various
digital moves happening on the continent. Therefore there is urgent
need for the use of digital solutions to address agricultural
challenges across the globe – transforming agriculture, strengthen the
extension delivery systems such as promoting information
dissemination, discuss with the small and commercials farmers, and
help the government to communicate their various plans.
The different web-based application can been used in aiming to
bridge the information gap in the agricultural seed sector and connect
the seed producers to their customers on its numerous benefits. The app can also serve as a means of registration for the seed producers as well as certification.
In the past five years, the International Institute of Tropical
Agriculture of the cassava weed management projects has been
using the app and the 3-2-1 toll free code, which were created
on Airtel mobile line. They were able to solve farmers’ challenges in
cassava production and it has increased some income of the farmers.
The different languages are translated into videos, radio programmes
and information into the different mobile phone of the farmers. To the
farmers in the across locations of the country, the various
videos teach the farmers on herbicides application, best planting
practices and cassava steps in cassava weed management and e-
marketing.
