Katsina state Government has expressed satisfaction with the current performance of players of the state-owned Pro-league club side, Sportlight Football Club so far in the on-going season.
The state commissioner of Sports, Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim Safana, revealed this shortly after Sportlight pipped visiting Jigawa Golden Stars 1 – 0 at Katsina Township Stadium over the weekend.
According to him, the players gave a good account of themselves, adding that if the players sustained the tempo, there was no doubt that the team would achieve its elite class target at the end of the football season.
While commending the club’s management led by Alhaji Ayuba Umar for their tireless efforts and zeal, he charged the players to redouble their commitment and dedication with a view to actualising the team dream of playing in the Nigerian Premier League come next football season.
Alhaji Safana, however, assured the players and the technical crew that the state government would ensure prompt payment of their salary as well as other entitlements aimed at boosting the players’ morale.
He then pledged that the state government would consider injecting five new experienced players during the league transfer window as part of strategy to re-inforce the team for better outing in both league and the forthcoming Federation Cup competition scheduled to take place later in the year.
He applauded the state Governor, Barr. Ibrahim Shehu Shema, for his support to the team and urged the players to reciprocate the state government’s gesture by winning laurels for the state.
