Prioritise quality of corps members’ food, NYSC DG urges

The Director General, National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Brig.  Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has charged all state coordinators to prioritise the quality and quantity of corps member’s food during the orientation.

This is event as he also called for provision of adequate security of the corps members both during and after camp, saying the coordinator should synergise with all security agencies on this.

Ibrahim stated this while addressing the zonal coordinators, state coordinators, camp directors, camp commandants and collaborating agencies during the 2020 Batch ‘A’ pre-orientation meeting of management in Abuja Tuesday in Abuja.

“On no account should corps members be made to pay money for official services. I wish to emphasise once more that the quality and quantity of food served in all camps must be acceptable standards while the menu timetable must be strictly adhered to.

“There should be no lackadaisical attitudes towards the welfare of our corp members and to tell you that the scheme lay much emphasis on the welfare of our corps members because they are the future leaders of this country,” he stated.

He further said, state coordinators should sensitise all camp officials to balance firmness with empathy in their dealings with corps members.

On corps members’ dress code, DG expressed dissatisfaction over the substantial non compliance with the dress code for corps members in some states adding that the NYSC uniform is a mark of identity, honour, solidarity and pride of the scheme and must therefore, be worn with the high sense of responsibility.

“We must do everything possible to ensure that corps members respect the uniform and use it correctly at all times,” he said.
