Premier League: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fires Arsenal pass ‘stubborn’ Burnley, signals top four alert

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang notched his second winner in six days for Arsenal then declared that the top four is in the Gunners’ sights.

Unai Emery’s men made it back-to-back victories to open the season with a 2-1 win over Burnley at the Emirates on Saturday lunchtime.

Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring early in the first half, before Ashley Barnes equalised on the stroke of half-time.

But Aubameyang picked up on Dani Ceballos’ tackle and fired past Nick Pope in the second period to hand Arsenal victory.

Next week they head to European champions Liverpool and Aubameyang says they will do so with confidence high.

“It is good to start like this with two wins before we go to Liverpool,” he told BT Sport. “We feel confident, we feel good. We are happy today.

“I think we feel stronger with players like David (Luiz), Dani Ceballos, Pepe – they came here and now we feel stronger – and I feel sure that we can fight for the top four.”

David Luiz, who made his Arsenal debut against the Clarets, added: “It feels very good (to be here), I am so happy to be here to try to do my job and also to enjoy playing with these quality players.

“I think this team has a lot to do, it can improve a lot and it can fight for all the competitions.

“So it is going to be step by step, working hard and it is a pleasure to be here.

“We want to put this team to shine again.”
