Premier League: Man City, United battle for supremacy

Manchester city will battle Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium in the 179th edition of the Manchester Derby. Both teams picked up wins in midweek, with City cruising to a 4-1 win over Burnley and United outclassing Tottenham 2-1 on Jose Mourinho’s return to the Theater of Dreams. City’s strength will be tested in the coming weeks with games against United, Arsenal and second place Leicester, who are having a breathtaking season so far.

They have already dropped 13 points so far, and any more dropped points will dent any faint hopes they have of defending their crown. That won’t bother United a bit tho, who moved up to sixth following their win at Spurs.

They’re desperate to climb up the table, but their away from leaves a lot to be desired. They have won just one of their last 11 away league games, but they do have a knack of showing up in the big games from time to time. And with Paul Pogba likely to feature, City will have to be on the look out or they could be on the receiving end of another defeat.

League leaders Liverpool will face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. The Reds continued their scintillating start to the campaign by beating rivals Everton 5-2 to remain unbeaten after 15 games.

They remain eight points clear at the top of the table, and against a Bournemouth side struggling for form, are expected to at least maintain that lead. Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino dropped to the bench for the game at Everton, and with the games coming thick and fast, there could be more rotations for the Reds.

Tottenham will aim to return to winning ways when they tackle Burnley at White Hart Lane. The Lilywhites were dealt their first loss under new boss Jose Mourinho when they lost to Manchester United, and they’ll be hoping to quickly get back on track. Opponents Burnley have lost their last two games, conceding six goals in the process, and it’s likely going to be the same story on the road against the London side.

Chelsea will travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton. The Blues have continued to maintain their place in the top four, but will be wary of an Everton side looking to prove a point following the sacking of manager Marco Silva. They battled past Aston Villa 2-1 in midweek and will be hoping it will be much smoother against the Toffees.

Watford will battle for just their second win of the season when they host Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road.

Tomorrow, Leicester will be aiming to continue their brillant run of form against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Wolves will take on a Brighton side now brimming with confidence thanks to their victory over Arsenal at the Falmer Stadium.

Newcastle will be eyeing another win when they take on Southampton at the Sports Direct Arena.

Norwich City will entertain Sheffield United at Carrow Road.
