Port operators lampoon FG over roads

Port operators and commuters have bemoaned what they tagged the federal government lip service to end the deplorable state of infrastructure at Nigerian ports.
Recently, maritime workers threatened to down tool over the gridlock on Apapa ports road caused by poor road network and excesses of trailer drivers that have turned the road to their parking arena.
The concerned operators averred that the government was playing to the gallery in order to deceive Nigerians ahead of 2019 election with some face saving promises of rebuilding the road.
Some of them who are big players in the maritime sectors expressed disappointed at the nonchalant attitude of the government to fix the infrastructure for years and called for urgent action to position the economy.
In a chat with Blueprint in Lagos some Nigerians bared their mind on the dilapidated state of the port road and call on government to do the needful.
According to Emeka Ndu, a staff of Ibru Group, it is the height of deceit for a government that forgot to fulfill her promise on this very important route for over four years to suddenly wake up and talk about it a year to 2019 when it is already seeking re-election.
Also, Chief Nobert Onwumere, General Manager, Aulic Bonded Terminal, described federal governments continued neglect of the Apapa ports roads as the height of discrimination despite the fact the same party in Abuja controls Lagos State. He said it is now clear that the entire position reflects a grand design to stifle development in the south.
On his part, the chairman, Association of Maritime Truck Owners ((AMATO), Chief Remi Ogungbemi said it was regrettable that Nigerians were being ruled by unfeeling people at the top.
He said people in government were taking the economy of the nation for a ride and careless about the poor and needy.
