Wife of the Chairman, Gwagwalada area council, Hajiya Aishat Abubakar Giri, has appealed to all women living in the area council to embrace peace and preach same to their children.
She said they should stay away and not allow politicians use them to foment trouble during and after the general elections.
Aishat made the call when she visited Paikon-Kore, Anguwar Quarters and Gwako communities, respectively, to distribute household items to the women of the area.
She said: “As mothers, we must be at the forefront to preach peace. During this election period, we should all come together and say no to violence. We should talk to our children. They should not allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause trouble.”
She said further that the women should get and equip themselves with the Permanent Voter cards (PVCs) before the expiration of the deadline.
She urged them to desist from selling their PVCs to party agents or politicians, pointing out that the card “is the power needed to exercise their civic right during the election.”
In his response, Aguma of Gwagwalada, Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji, who received the chairman’s wife in his palace, warned against overheating the polity, saying that as the custodian of the people, he would continue to preach peace in the council.
