Politicians justified rejecting electorate’s phone calls

Nearly all politicians in Ondo state and across the country have severally been accused by some parasitic electorate of refusing to pick their calls.

Aside the fact that these politicians are often subjected to intense financial pressures right from their very first day in office, it is ludicrous that some parasitic electorate always desire to have their cakes and eat.

It is no longer a secret that most of Nigerian politicians are compelled by the awkward political situation in the country to gratify the electorate, and even the godfathers before they could be nominated as candidates of their parties and to even get voted for by the electorate. All of these demands would always place a heavy strain on the finances of these politicians.

The same politicians would be invited to different churches and mosques with the sole intention of extracting donations from them. Yet, the same religious leaders would still expect the politicians to keep servicing them while in office.

There is no doubt that majority, if not all, the calls placed to political office holders by their constituents are either for financial requests or for other forms of assistance. Some electorate that got their wives pregnant would even expect their member in the House of Representatives or state assembly to shoulder responsibilities of the hospital bills and provide funds for elaborate naming ceremonies. These demands could not have been more ridiculous, and political office holders that choose not to pick the calls of such parasitic electorate must never be blamed.

It is also a fact that hardly would any electorate call a political office holder, just to check on him or her. Every call to  political office holders is always linked to one demand, request or assistance.

Sad enough, the moment any political office holder declines to render an assistance, so as to accommodate other electorate that have not benefited; such office holder would immediately be branded insensitive, cocky and inaccessible.

The earlier our electorate stopped subjecting Nigeria’s political office holders to intense financial requests, the better for the nation and even the political sanity of the country.
