Police smash robbery gang in Rivers

The Police in Rivers state have smashed an armed robbery gang that specialises in car theft and car snatching, mostly breaking into parked cars late at night and snatching vehicles at gun point.
Blueprint gathered that, the gang had an organised operational circle that covers Rivers, Imo, and Lagos states with their base in Port Harcourt, just as one of the gang’s kingpin, Andrew Atusi, also poses as a Military Captain to intimidate unsuspecting members of the public.
Commissioner of Police (CP) for the state, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, disclosed this, weekend while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt.
He said the men of the Anti-robbery squad also arrested gang of car snatchers who specialises in changing of physical features of cars and forgery of car documents.
The gang, he said, were apprehended while trying to forcefully taking away a highlander jeep in following a tip off which also led a combined team to arrest suspected members of a cult, who specialises in kidnapping and ritual killing in his home at Igwuruta.
Ogunsakin said that, “At the point of his arrest the suspect was discovered to be in possession of two locally made pistols, live ammunition and skull.”
