Police parade 30 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers in Kogi

The Nigeria Police Force yesterday paraded 30 suspected inter-state armed robbers, kidnappers , social miscreants, cattle rustlers, cultists and hoodlums terrorising people of the state and its environs.

Parading the suspects in Lokoja, the Force Public Relation Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood said the incessant criminal activities of the hoodlums along Auchi-Okene, LokojaAjaokuta- Anyigba, Kabba-OshokoshokoObajana highways, moved the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris to direct the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, Mr Ali Janga to quickly address the situation.

CSP Moshood added that the effort of the Commissioner and his team through vigour, dedication, utmost professionalism and passion for the job led to the arrest of the 30 suspected criminals and the recoveries of several weapons.

Among those arrested and paraded for kidnapping are Umar Isiaka alias Baddi, 25, Abdulkadir Abubakar alias Nagari, 32, Sanusi Saleh, 22, and Abubakar Hassan alias Kadel, 34. While parading the suspects, Moshood said on the 23rd of October, 2017, Dangote Company Security Unit at Obajana tendered a complaint that some unknown gunmen invaded the construction company site along Oshokoshoko road and shot two police officers to death while their principal, an expatriate, Mr Jose Machada, was kidnapped and later shot death after five days in captivity.

He added that the operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Kogi state command led by DSP Babagana Bukar, in synergy with DSS promptly swung into action and arrested the four suspects.

The items recovered from the suspects according to Moshood are 3 AK47 rifles, one single barrel gun and one cutlass, adding that they have confessed to the crime, assuring that others suspects that at large that they will be arrested soon. Also paraded are Shede Zekere, 25, and Ademu Garba, 23; they were arrested for kidnapping and cattle rustling

 

Nigerian Customs seizes 23 smuggled carsBy Adebimpe Afunku Abeokuta Ogun state command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yesterday said it intercepted 23 smuggled vehicles worth over N37 million from smugglers in both IdiIroko and Abeokuta axis of the command.

The Area Commander, Sani Madugu, disclosed this at a press conference held at the command headquarters, Abeokuta. He added that the command also seized about 391 bags of rice worth over N3 million and other smuggled goods such as clothes, shoes and electronics worth over N6 million “We have a total of duty paid value of over N62 million, while we have seized about 391 bags of 50kg rice.

We also intercepted about 23 cars from both the Abeokuta and IdiIroko Axis of the command,” he said. “We are not sleeping, we are working 24/7 to make sure smuggling activities is a thing of the past in Ogun state. We would keep using new tactics to discover the new techniques used by smugglers,” Mr. Madugu stated.

The customs boss also pledged the command’s support for the state government on the production of MITROS Rice, warning smugglers to desist from importation of rice to the state.

“We are equally mindful of the recently launched rice by Ogun state government,that is Ofada rice. We have a letter from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ogun state and we are encouraging the manufacturing of this rice. “We are fully in support of it and we would give them (government) all the necessary support and make sure Ogun state rice succeed.”
