Police nab Boko Haram commander in Abuja

Th e Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, yesterday, said its offi cers arrested a suspected member of the Boko Haram, Seth Yakubu Adokwe, who is said to be the second in command (2i/c) in his unit, at Gwako village in the FCT. Address journalists at the command headquarters in Abuja, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the territory, CP Musa Kimo, said the suspect was arrested at Gwako village on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at 11:30. He said: “Th e suspect, one Seth Yakubu Adokwe, 20, an indigene of Obi LGA, Nasarawa state, was arrested after police received a tipoff on his suspicious behaviour in the village. “Th e suspect, who confessed to his membership of the Boko Haram group said he escaped to the village from Sambisa forest after their hideout was dislodged by the Nigeria Air Force through a major air-strike about a week ago “He further stated that he left Maiduguri on Friday, July 21, 2017, and arrived Gwako village on Saturday, July 22, at about 10pm to conceal his identity and seek refuge.”

Th e police boss further stated that Adokwe also confessed to have been lured to join the group in October 2016, by a young man, who approached him with a promise of an automatic employment into the Nigeria Army. “Adokwe said aside from being the second in command in his unit, he also confessed to have actively participated in several deadly attacks launched by the group against innocent citizens,” CP Kimo said. He enjoined residents of the FCT and its environs to be vigilant and always report any strange and suspicious persons or activities to the police, just as he advised community leaders to guard against harbouring strangers especially those whose mission to the community is not clear. “Upon identifi cation of any strange face in a community, the nearest police formation can be alerted or the FCT Police Command emergency helplines can be contacted on: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883.
