Police nab 9 for selling fake disinfectants in Kano

Kano state Police command has recovered fake Dettol soap and liquid disinfectant products worth N11 million at Sabon-Gari market in the commercial city.
Addressing journalists in the command yesterday, Kano Police Public Relations Officer, Magaji Musa Majiya, said the recovery followed a receipt of a complaint letter by some concerned citizens expressing concern over proliferation of the counterfeit products.

According to him, upon receiving the information, the command’s Ambush Squad launched an operation at the targeted location and arrested six retailers and three dealers of the fake products, adding that 1301 cartons of Dettol liquid and four cartons of Dettol soap worth N11,189,500 were also recovered.

Majiya also revealed that among the arrested persons was one 30-year old Gambo Musa, a resident of Kwana Hudu Quarters in the Kano metropolis, who was once jailed for committing similar offence, was also arrested with 1, 200 cartons of the counterfeit products, adding that one Ifeanyi Ibube of Njaba local government of Imo state was arrested with 80 cartons of the fake products.
He said “in this light, the Kano state Police Command has vowed to fish out all criminals and their activities that may affect the health and safety of the public, as well as retard the economy of the state and the country at large.”
