Police nab 4-man robbery gang, recovers rifle in A/Ibom

Akwa Ibom Police Command said it arrested a four man gang who have been terrorising and snatching cars in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme made the disclosure during the official commissioning of 30 Hilux van donated to the command by the State government at the headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia .

Amiengheme, who said that the operation which was led by SP Ekene Nwosu, recovered an assult rifle from the gang, adding that investigation was ongoing.

“It will interest you to know sir, that on 19th December, 2020, acting on a credible information, our men of the revamped Anti-Robbery Unit, headed by SP Ekene Nwosu, arrested a four man gang, responsible for some of the robberies and car snatching around the State. An assault rifle was recovered from the gang. While a discreet follow-up investigation is ongoing,”

Receiving the patrol  vans, he commended the Governor for the donation , adding that the action will boast the morale of the force.

Amiengheme assured Gov. Emmanuel of maximum protection of residents  through ceaseless patrol during the Yuletide and beyond, stressing that rates of crime would drastically be reduced.

“Let me assure his Excellency, that the Command under my watch will spare no stone unturned in ensuring that all those who are involved in any form of criminality in  the state are brought to book.

“We are determined to confront violent crime headlong, put an end to senseless killings particularly cultism, arm robbery and  rape amongst our youths,” he added.

Meanwhile, Governor Udom Emmanuel  while making the  donation of 30 new Utility patrol Vehicles to the  command for use in combating crime, said the vehicles are the first batch of 100 patrol trucks  he promised.

The Governor who expressed condolences to officers and men of the command who lost their lives during the #endsars protest, urged them not to relent  in ensuring that criminality is brought under control in the state.

“Recent  reports of  gradual reduction of criminality  in the state is heartwarming  and I believe it  is as a result of  hard work  by the command”.

He  promised to continue to  partner  and invest  in security  to ensure the  safety of life and property of Akwa Ibom people.

“My donation of these new patrol trucks  is to support  the police  and other  security agencies to  enhance  their performance and  to ensure a smooth yuletide for all residents in the state’

“I therefore on behalf of the people of the state  appreciate your untiringly effort in curbing criminality in the state,” he stated.
