Police nab 3 women for child theft

The police in Ezeagu, Enugu state, have arrested three women, two of who hail from Awha Imezi and Oyofo both of Ezeagu LGA of the state, while the third is from Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo; for allegedly child theft.

A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amarizu, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were arrested for selling a five-year-old-baby.

The statement further disclosed that investigations revealed that the child whose parents were yet to be located was stolen from Egbeda, Lagos state, on March 3, 2014.

The spokesperson said a yet-to-be-arrested prospective buyer had agreed to pay N500,000 for the child, even as the suspects were found to have stolen another baby from Ichieahamba village in Abia on March 5, 2014.

Amarizu said the police recovered the child from one of the women who wanted to sell him for N600,000, adding that investigation was on-going on both cases and the suspects were helping the operatives in their investigations.
