Delta state police command yesterday killed a gang of armed robbers in Sapele, Sapele local government area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Celestina Kalu, said: “On 21/11/2015 at about 1630hrs, a combined team of Federal and Delta Command SARS operatives acting on a tip off traced a wanted armed robbery kingpin to a marriage ceremony at Sapele.
“The suspect on sighting the operatives and in a bid to evade arrest ordered two armed men dressed in mobile Police uniform with him to open fire on the SARS operatives.
“In the ensuing gun encounter, the suspect and one of the men in uniform were hit by bullet and arrested. They, however, gave up the ghost on the way to hospital.”
In another development, the police image maker said they rescued a kidnapped victim, one Samuel Ofolue.
PPRO said “On 21/11/2015 at about 1300hrs, the DPO Okpanam Division received information that three armed men were seen trying to force one Samuel Ofolue ‘m’ of Kingsley Nwobi Close, Obodogba – Okpanam into a waiting car.”
