Police kill bandit, recover fire arms in Zamfara

The Zamfara state police command Tuesday foiled an attack on Matagwaye village in Tsafe local government council of the state, killing one of the suspected bandits.

This was made known by the state commissioner of police, Usman Nagoggo at a press conference at the state command state headquarters in Gusau, Wednesday.

His words: “On 10th March, about 0100 hours, the divisional police headquarters, Tsafe received information that three armed bandits with Ak-47 rifles stormed Matagwaye village via Yandoto district of Tsafe local government council and during the encounter one bandit was killed and his Ak-47 rifle recovered.”

The commissioner hinted that the command had apprehended two suspects identified as Bello Sani and Auwal Hassan, for criminal conspiracy and intimidation and attempt to commit act of terrorism by pasting a threat letter at the residences of Gyalange village head and ward councillor in Gummi local government council while demanding N3 million within three days or have whole community wiped out.

“On the strength of this, using the phone number imbedded on the letter, the police went on manhunt of the suspects and arrested them,” Nagoggo stated.

The CP further stated that the command had apprehended one Bernard Anyanwu from Imo state who specialised in breaking vehicles and taking away large sums of money from bank customers within Gusau environs.
