Police in Ondo state are investigating the circumstances surrounding the abduction of a businessman, Oyewale Akinwande, aka Honourable Wale, by suspected herdsmen.
Our correspondent gathered that four men suspected to be herdsmen reportedly abducted the middle-aged man at his sawmill factory site in Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of the state.
The gunmen, who were said to have invaded the sawmill at about 9am along Ipele /Idoani road were allegedly armed with machetes, guns and other dangerous weapons.
An eye witness account has it that the men shot sporadically into the air before seizing Akinwande and dragging him out of the sawmill to an unknown destination.
The eye witness, who did not want his name in print, maintained that the armed men were part of the Fulani herdsmen who had taken over farmlands in the community in recent time.
He called on security agents in the state to curb incessant invasion of the armed men in the area.
When contacted, the police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, Femi Joseph, said the police were on the trail of the abductors and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to book.
He, however, would not confirm whether the kidnappers had contacted family of the victim and if ransom had been demanded.
