Police in Gombe admonish Tangale, Kaltungo chiefdoms on peace

Gombe state Police Commissioner, Shina Tairu Olukolu, has admonished traditional rulers of Kaltungo and Tangale chiefdoms to prevail on their people to allow peace to reign in their communities.
The appeal followed the communal conflict between Shongom and Billiri communities over a piece of land, which resulted in the killing of one David Stephen, with two other persons sustaining injuries last weekend.
A press statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Obed Mary Malum, and made available to journalists in Gombe yesterday said the commissioner of police advised the people to live in harmony with one another in order to allow peace and development in their areas.
“I wish to seize this opportunity to warn aggrieved persons to stop taking the law into their own hands.
They are advised to at all times allow the Police to perform their constitutional responsibilities of the protection of lives and properties,” he said.
He said due to the intervention of security agencies in the state, normalcy has been restored, explaining that arrests of suspects with dangerous weapons were made, adding that the suspects were being profiled by the military pending transfer and further investigation by the police.
“I wish to assure all good people of Gombe state of the safety of their lives and properties at all times, no matter the challenges or impediments occasioned by mischief makers, unscrupulous elements and rabble rousers in their midst,” he said.
