Barely three days to the Bayelsa state gubernatorial elections, the Nigeria Police Force has said it would deploy 14,000 personnel to cover the elections.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Solomon Arase, stated this in Yenagoa during his interaction with men and officers of the Bayelsa state police command.
He said in order to effectively provide security for a free and fair elections, the Nigeria police is to deploy 14, 000 officers, a DIG and three commissioners of police who would dominate security space and surveillance in all the eight local government areas of Bayelsa state.
He gave the assurance that the police were involved in similar exercise in two weeks ago in Plateau state and poised to replicate the feat that was recorded there.
In a response to an allegation of a governorship candidate that was plotting to sew police uniforms, he said anybody planning such was involved in a bad investment and that it would not work.
He said the police were a political and any of its men involved in professional misconduct would face the full wrath of the law, adding that the responsibility of the conduct of the election was for INEC while the duty of the police were to enforce the laws.
On while he was in Bayelsa state this time, he said he was in the state to use one stone to kill the birds, that is to interact with men and officers of the Bayelsa state police command and hold a stakeholders workshop with INEC on the need for a peaceful, free and fair conduct of the December, 5, 2015 gubernatorial election.
