Following Wednesday protest at the PDP National Headquarters, Wadata House, the FCT Commissioner of Police, acting CP Wilson Inalegwu, has warned against violent protests within the territory.
The commissioner in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Peter Okechukwu, admonished persons with genuine grievances who wish to ventilate such through peaceful protest to act within the ambit of the law.
He, however, warned against such protests encroaching on the rights of other law abiding Nigerians going about their lawful engagements.
Inalegwu further advocated for understanding from the public, especially persons who have the need to express their grievances not to forget that others who may be hindered from going about their lawful businesses in the course of a protest have equal privileges as citizens.
While harping on the need for the rule of law to prevail, the Police boss admonished everyone with genuine complaint to feel free to approach the Police or conduct their protest peacefully.
According to the statement, men and officers of the command successfully contained what would have turned a bloody protest when some angry protesters besieged the PDP National Headquarters, blocking people from going about their lawful engagements.
The spokesperson said Investigation into the incidence by the FCT Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was on-going for possible prosecution of culprits.
