Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), in charge of Zone 12, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin has called for an improved collaboration between the security agencies and the traditional institutions as a way of tackling the security challenges in the North-east.
Ogunsakin made the call during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Fika yesterday as part of his familiarisation tour of the Zone 12 Command of the Nigeria Police Force, which comprised Bauchi, Borno and Yobe states.
The AIG said “there is a very strong need to foster closer ties between the Joint Security agencies and the traditional institution in the North-east.”
The police boss also said the traditional institution would furnish the security agencies with the much-needed information,” adding that improved collaboration would also aid in community-policing and a more people-oriented security effort.

Ogunsakin also expressed the readiness of men and officers of the police in the zone to professionally tackle the rising case of terrorism, communal clashes and other vices, not just in the North-east, but all over the country.
Responding, the Emir, HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Ibin Abali Muhammadu Idrissa (CON), expressed his delight at the gesture of the AIG for sending a letter to the Palace to inform of his resumption as AIG; something, he said, had never happened in the history of his reign.
The emir, who is the chancellor, University of Ilorin, also expressed his readiness to partner with the security agencies to stamp out insurgency which has been a long standing menace in Yobe state and the entire North-east.
