Police arrest cleric for armed robbery in Ogun

A Pastor, Daniel Onwugbufor, has been arrested by the men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), in Ogun state, for alleged armed robbery.
The suspect, who is the General Overseer of God’s Favour Ministry, Iba, in Lagos state, and reportedly leader of a three-man syndicate which specialises in car snatching.
A press statement by the Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, said his arrest followed a technical intelligence by men of the FSARS led by Uba Adams, over series of car snatching reports.
Abimbola, an Assistant Superintendent of Police said one of the snatched cars, a Lexus RX 330 was tracked and found inside the compound of Onwugbufor at his residence in Iba.
One of his accomplice, Animashaun, who was equally arrested by the Police, confessed to that the gang specialized in snatching exotic cars at gunpoint and that the said Lexus Jeep was snatched at gunpoint in Lekki Ajah area of Lagos State.
He (Animashaun) claimed that the Pastor gave him a sum of three hundred and fifty thousand naira only on the car.
Onwugbufor was reported to have denied having anything to do with Animashaun but later confessed to the crime after a thorough investigation.
He said that the third member of the gang based in Onitsha used to take custody of the snatched cars.
The statement read, “On interrogation, Animasaun confessed that he and 2 others snatched the Lexus jeep on gunpoint at Ajah in Lagos and took it to the Pastor who used to help them in selling such robbed items.
“He stated further that the Pastor only paid him the sum of N350,000 for the car after using it for two weeks before he sent it to his other accomplice in Onitsha who is still at large.
“He also informed the Police that he once robbed somebody of a Samsung Galaxy handset which the Pastor bought for N35,000 from him.
“The Pastor who first denied knowing Animashaun to be an armed robber later confessed when confronted by the said Animasaun blaming his action on the devil.”
He said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed the FSARS operatives to intensify effort to get all members of the syndicate arrested.
