Police arrest 3 in Kano for ‘abducting’ 4-yr-old baby

The Police in Kano have arrested a three-man gang of suspected kidnappers in Tundun Wada local government area of Kano state who had unsuccessfully attempted to kidnap a four-old baby.

Parading the three-man gang at the Command’s headquarters in Kano yesterday, the police Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Musa Majiya, said upon investigation, one of the suspects, Aliyu Tasiu, was found to be  a younger brother to the grandmother of the victim, who was lured into the act by one Bello Wada, who is the suspected mastermind.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Tasiu, the second suspect, who is a family member, has access into the house of the grandmother who is taking care of the victim.

Majiya said the grandmother was blocked from sighting the baby at the time the culprits made frantic efforts to abduct him as result of which Bello Wada took the baby and handed him over to one of the accomplices, Fauziyya Bala who whisked him to their den in Tarauni Quarters in Kano metropolis.

The Police Public Relations Officer maintained that the suspects later called the grandmother of the victim through her GSM line which was known to less than ten people, including the said Tasiu, her younger brother.
Majiya further revealed that the suspects have pressurised the family to pay a ransom of N3 million, failure of which they threatened to eliminate the abducted baby boy.

He said the case was reported to the Tudun Wada Divisional Police Headquarters in company of the two of the three suspects who sympathized with the family.
The police, he added, promptly commenced investigation and arrested the suspects in addition to rescuing the victim without any harm, or payment of the ransom they initially demanded.
