Police arrest 2 gunrunners, recover firearms in Kaduna

Kaduna state Police Command has apprehended two suspected gunrunners and recovered eight locally made pump-action guns, one locally made pistol, and 65 live cartridges in a crackdown on illegal arms trafficking.

The suspects, Zubairu Musa, 40, and Nasiru Saidu, 17, both from Kankara local government area of Katsina state, were intercepted by officers of the 47 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Zaria.

The Command’s PPRO, ASP Mansir Hassan, in a statement disclosed that the suspects are cooperating with authorities to expose other members of the syndicate and their operational scope.

According to the PPRO, “Acting on credible intelligence, the officers stopped the suspects during a routine patrol along the Zaria-Jos Road on December 5, 2024, at about 11:35 am.

“The suspects were found with a bag containing the firearms and ammunition, which preliminary investigations revealed were being trafficked as part of an illegal arms network. Police spokesperson.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Abdullahi, commended the officers for their prompt action and reassured the public of the command’s determination to combat crime and ensure safety. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.

“The command reiterated its commitment to clamping down on gunrunning and other criminal activities in Kaduna State. Investigations are ongoing.”
