The police yesterday arraigned a housewife, Chidinma Okonkwo,35, in an Upper Area Court at Gwagwalada in the FCT, for calling one Peace Oledingwa a prostitute.
Okonkwo is charged with two counts of criminal intimidation and defamation of character.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Iliya Maji, told the court that the accused intimidated and defamed the character of Oledingwa.
Maji said Okonkwo had accused the plaintiff of having an affair with her husband, one Sunday Okonkwo and threatened to disgrace her in public.
The prosecutor said that the case was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Gwagwalada by Oledingwa.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 396 and 391 of the Penal Code.
If convicted she faces up to seven years in prison or with an option of fine or both.
The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Alhassan Kusherki, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Kusherki adjourned the matter until June 15, for hearing. (NAN)
