Police area commander reads riot act to miscreants

Criminal elements hibernating in Kuje and its environs have been warned that police raids on their hideouts will be more regular to ensure that the crime rate in the Federal Capital Territory “does not jump up precipitously.”

Police Area Commander for Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji, ACP Jahum Mohammed, gave the warning on telephone interview with our correspondent in Gwagwalada at the weekend to clarify that the Special Armed Robber Squad (SARS) raided Chukuku, a suburb of Kuje area council, and arrested no less than 20 youths behind the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School.

Mohammed said although reports on the one-hour raid had not been submitted to him miscreants and other criminal elements should expect that such unannounced police visits would be more regular “since reports have indicated that some areas of Chukuku and Kuje have become dens to lawless individuals.”

“Chukuku has become notorious for criminal activities and I am not surprised that SARS raided the place. They must have acted on tip-off or valid security reports. Good members of the public should not panic about such raids because it is for their own good and safety,” he said.

Investigations showed that the neighbourhood, which had a drinking joint, also attracted all manners of people, including prostitutes, homosexuals, drug dealers and users.

Residents and neighbours lamented that the night club had become noisy, with loudspeakers blaring music.
