The Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, Gabriel Dewan, has assured his Zamfara state counterpart of the desired support in areas of legal framework that would enhance legislative autonomy of the Zamfara Assembly.
Hon. Dewan made the assurance at his office when he received the members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, led by the deputy speaker, Aliyu Adamu, on a courtesy visit.
“We should take responsibility, to hold the government to accountability, for the benefit of the poor citizens,” Hon Dewan said.
He stressed that as leaders, they must unite irrespective of party affiliations, to strive hard to develop the Northern region, economically and educationally.
“We must come together as a people, our leaders (in the North) must come together; as parliaments, we must have some ideas to initiate together, we should have some bills that will have to do with the welfare of the people, across the assemblies,” he said.
Speaker Dewan said the Plateau state 9th Assembly, had done good work for setting the foundation for financial autonomy of the state assembly, which members were already enjoying.
He further tasked his colleagues in Zamfara to do everything possible through effective legislations in controlling the mining activities in the state.
Dewan presented copies of the Plateau State Funds management Law, and its amendment versions, House of Assembly Service Commission law and a communiqué for implementation of financial autonomy.
The Clerk, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Mahmud Aliyu, told the Speaker Dewan that they were in the Plateau assembly, for an understudy visit to learn about how financial autonomy of the legislature was being practised, as guaranteed by section 121 (2), 5th alterations of the Constitution.
