Plateau: SDP chieftain Huzaifa, supporters defect to APC

The gale of defection has hit the Plateau state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), as one of its chieftain, Hon. Huzaifa Ibrahim, and hundreds of his supporters in Jos, the state capital, moved to All Progressives Congress (APC).

Huzaifa was the Jos North Local Government Council chairmanship candidate of the SDP in the last election.

He said his defection was borne out of the advice of his teeming supporters.

In a statement personally signed by himself, Hon. Huzaifa said, “My defection became necessary at this material time.

“After wide consultations, it became necessary for us to shift our political base from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC). In this light, I and my teeming supporters have since resigned our membership of the SDP and have joined the APC.”

“Our reasons, amongst others, include the mere absence of full democratic structures across all organs of the SDP in Plateau State, without which no serious party will thrive,” he said.

According to Huzaifa, the support and opportunities given to them by the SDP were highly appreciable.

“We have enjoyed tremendous support from the SDP, and I must thank them for the opportunity I had of being the party’s flag bearer in the last Local Government Council elections,” he said.
