Plateau Peaks unfazed by defeat

Despite going down by 16 points to Mark Mentors in one the games decided at the weekend in the top flight Basketball Premier League known as Savannah Conference, Plateau Peaks Basketball Club have assured of their readiness to claim a continental ticket and ultimate emerge as among top eight team at the end of the current season.

Speaking shortly after their crucial tie with Mark Mentors of Abuja which ended 72 – 56 in favour of the Mentors, head coach of Plateau Peaks, Jacqueline Niagwan, praised the resilience spirit of her boys which saw them get marginal points in the first quarter, adding that the Abuja-based team had more experienced players.

According to her, “We don’t really have forwarders. Most of our players are still struggling to align themselves with our style of play. The Mark Mentors players are taller which gives them an advantage over us. Some of them are old players who even play in the national team. All the same, my players did not disappointment me.

On whether their target to emerge as one of the super four clubs was realizable, coach Niagwan admitted: “We may not be among those who will be in the Super 4 but we will fight to be in the Super eight by the end of the season.”

On his part, Mark Mentors’ head coach Peter Amedu attributed the performance of wards as commendable after they suffered a controversial narrow defeat in the hands of Gombe Bulls, a week ago stressing, “we have been away for one week because of the all-star competition. So we needed to adjust our style of play when we observed that we didn’t do well in the first quarter.
“Plateau Peaks are full of veterans and experienced players who have been in the league for quite some time.
