Plateau massacre: Reps demand coordinated security operations

The House of Representatives, has called for coordinated security operations in areas affected by the recent killings in parts of Plateau State.

Former Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Idris Wase and 35 other members, in a motion under matters of urgent public importance during a special plenary to pass the 2024 budget on Saturday, recalled that December 24 attacks have left over 200 persons death, and scores injured.

The House in its resolution, urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately assess the extent of damage,with a view to providing relief materials to the victims.

It also directed the inspector General of Police, IGP to intensify investigation into the attacks, as it also urged the Chief of
Defence Staff to ensure a coordinated joint operation in the area to ensure security, aerial surveillance, and intelligence gathering to ensure restoration of peace to the areas.

Wase recalled that Over 200 were killed, as several villages were attacked in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi areas, during which homes were set ablaze

“Until now, security agencies yet to identify those behind the gruesome attacks”, he said.

Also speaking, Minority Leader of the House and one of the cosponsor, Hon. Kingsley Chinda lamented that information gotten was that the attackers sent letters that they were coming to attack, but nothing was done until the successful executed the threat unchallenged.

“If a government cannot provide security, it is not worthy to be a government. I am tired of standing to observe a minute silence every time. Let the lives of Nigerians should begin to matter”, the lawmaker stated.
