Plateau state Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area (LGA)of the state.
This was contained in press release, Sunday night, by Gyang Bere, the spokesman of the governor.
According to the release, the decision was in decisive move to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order, in the area, effective from 12 midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Blueprint correspondent reports that some protesting youth had, Sunday evening, looted people’s properties, at Farin Gada market, Laranto market, Enugu Road, and New markets all in Jos North LGA, with a stamp that caused the death of one teen boy at New market.
The protesters have threatened marketers not to open for businesses on Monday, but urging them to join the protests.
However, Governor Mutfwang, said in consultation with state security agencies, has taken this decision to impose 24-hour curfew, after reviewing the actions of unscrupulous individuals who exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on innocent citizens.
The governor noted, “that these criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction in Jos North Local Government Area, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.
“The curfew is in the best interest of all citizens and urged everyone to comply fully to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.”
He directed security agencies in the state to ensure the total enforcement of the curfew across the LGA.
Governor Mutfwang, warned those planning to unleash further terror on innocent citizens to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law, while calling on the relevant security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties to prevent any potential disruptions to law and order.
