Plateau APC: Legacy parties fear compromise, want congress cancelled

The outgoing interim chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sen. J.N. Shagaya, has said that the newly constituted leadership of the party in Plateau state “undermines and excludes the legacy parties.”

Shagaya stated this in his report to the national chairman of the APC on the concluded state congresses.
He said: “The emergence of the state chairman was masterminded by a Senator of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Latep M. Dabang, a senior legislative aide in the National Assembly.

The report said if the position was allowed to pass through, the strength and followership of the APC could be “compromised in the near future.”
According to the report, there was massive participation of PDP members from Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs as delegates, and that such action was shamefully encouraged by Hon. Jock Alamba.

“It will be recalled that these three LGAs did not participate in the APC registration exercise, yet Alamba manufactured the delegates,” it added.
Shagaya claimed that Amb. Yahaya Kwande had shared more than N30 million, and quashed the earlier approved zoning formula by the stakeholders prior to the congress.

The report recommended that the national headquarters should approve the zoning formula as earlier on endorsed by all, and to also ban
indicted persons who “stole party money,” from running for any position.

The report further suggested that Articles 9 and 17 of the party’s constitution should be invoked on Hon. Latep, while Amb. Kwande should be cautioned not to create a faction in the party as he was claiming membership of the NEC.
It said the party should “authorise and conduct fresh congress in areas where there were genuine complaints, especially the state management team.”
