Peace mission: Niger Delta women urges those responsible for killing of soldiers to surrender

A non-partisan advocacy group, the Niger Delta Women Professionals has advised youth of Okuama community in Delta state responsible for the killing of 17 soldiers from 181 Amphibious Division to hand themselves over to military authorities without delaying, saying there will be no hiding place for them.

The women who described the killing as unacceptable and capable of truncating the peace in the region, called on people in Okuama and environs to cooperate and give security agencies necessary information to effect arrest of the culprits.
The women said they support ongoing efforts by the military to capture the leader of the militant group and his members responsible for the heinous crime.

The Group in a press statement signed by the President, Dame Augusta Wariboko and General Secretary, Dr. Agnes Tari , said members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria who have over the years paid so much sacrifice for the country do not deserve such wickedness.
They noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria has played a pivotal role in building peace in the region, especially using Non-kinetic approach, hence the killing must be condemned in all ramifications.

“We support the investigation ordered by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa to get to the root of the problem.

“It is important the culprits surrender to the military authorities immediately. We urge residents of Okuama and environs to pass on useful information to the security agencies.

“We, women in the Niger-Delta are vehemently against the atrocious conduct of the militant group. What has happened doesn’t represent the people of the Niger-Delta. We are totally in support of what Gen. Musa and his troops are doing, especially in tackling oil theft,” the group said.
