Peace association decries crisis

In a bid to promote peaceful co-existence, a pan Nigerian Association for Peace and Unity of Nigeria, United Nigerian Forum, has decried the increasing waves of socio-political and communal conflicts in the country and appealed to the nation’s leaders and citizens to eschew all acts that further push the country into crisis.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the convener of the Forum, Comrade Umar Farouk, lamented the activities and utterances of politicians whom, he said “have been heating up the polity in the pursuit of their individual and group ambitions in the 2015 general elections.”
Farouk advised the electorate to be wary of politicians who sought their support by inciting them to engage in violence on ethnic and religious sentiments.

He said: “In an effort to foster peace and unity in the country, a symposium, entitled ‘The Nigeria of our Dreams’ is being organised to further highlight the mission of the Forum.”
Eminent Nigerians such as renowned human rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome, the Chief of Defence Spokesman, Major General Chris Olukolade, and Dr. Inusa Tanko of the Inter-parliamentary Council, amongst others, would deliver lectures on various subjects of peace, unity and security in the country.”
