The Ambassador of Peace, William Yaji, has urged the federal government to beef up security around public schools in the country.
Yaji made the call in an interactive session with Blueprint in Abuja against the backdrop of the recent stampede that happened in a school, Abuja, leading to parents rushing to withdraw their children from schools following claims that members of the Boko Haram sect were planning to abduct the pubils.
He described the activities of the Sect as “a great threat to school children in Nigeria.”
He stressed that the safety of school children should also be paramount in the security measures that government was taking against the insurgents.
He said: “Nigerians should cooperate with the security agencies in order to win the battle of insurgents, because security alone cannot do this all. We should help them with information to make them work properly for a more secure and better Nigeria.”
The peace ambassador called on Nigerians to fast and pray for the release of the over 200 school girls currently “in the hands of the Boko Haram,” adding that the children had already suffered a lot.
