PDP promised me automatic ticket — Shagari

Deputy Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari, yesterday said that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had promised him an automatic ticket to contest the 2015 governorship election.
Shagari, who said this at the PDP national secretariat when he came to pick his nomination and expression of interest forms, said he has never undermined Sokoto state Governor Aliyu Wamakko.
He disclosed that his coming to the party headquarters was just a formality, as he has already been promised automatic ticket by the party.
He said: “It was the promise the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, made to me that after the tenure of Governor Wamakko the position would be given to me.
“My coming here is just a formality. My people bought the form for me. I have been loyal to the party. I have never disrespected Wamakko, I have never undermined him. I have not sabotaged his administration. There are APC members who are ready to join the PDP.”
Hon. Ibrahim Shehu, an aspirant from Zamfara, who came to submit his governorship form, said that the reason why PDP has never won that state was because it always fielded a candidate that was not popular.
He lamented that Zamfara was the least in education index, adding that in terms of industrialisation there was nothing to write home about the state.
Former Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Samuel Orton, was also at the party headquarters to pick his nomination and expression of interest form.
