All Progress Congress (APC) in Ekiti state yesterday accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of planning to place selected leaders of their party in each of the sixteen local governments under house arrest on the day of election.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the spokesperson of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Dimeji Daniels, it said the plan was meant to create fear in the minds of followers such leaders who might become jittery and decide to stay away from polling units, thereby leading to voter apathy.
He said: “This plan is to be executed with fake policemen who are currently being recruited and trained by the PDP.
“Some of these fake policemen trained in Osun and Ondo States are already assigned to the PDP candidate, Ayodele Fayose, and his Labour Party (LP) co-conspirator, Opeyemi Bamidele.
“Decked in fake police uniforms and name-tags, these thugs posing as cops have been providing cover for both the PDP and LP thugs who continue to unleash terror and mayhem on every community the two candidates visit.”
Dispelling the accusation, the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation, Mr Gboyega Aribisogan, said “in this campaign PDP has shown that we are ready for the election. All those jejune stories are tissues of lies coming from a drowning government.”
But Daniels insisted: “In the last four weeks, thugs of both the PDP and LP candidates have wreaked untold havoc on Egbe, Ido-Ile, Okemesi, Aramoko, Ipole-Iloro, Ilupeju, Itaji, Iyin and parts of Ilejemeje local government.
The Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation added that it had also uncovered plans by the PDP to clone voter cards which it planned to use during the governorship election.
“The PDP agents of rigging have been going about inducing eligible voters to allow them copy the VIN number on their voter’s cards. They plan to clone as many voter cards as possible.
“This criminal act of the PDP agents is more rampant in Ado-Ekiti local government which has the highest number of registered voters. Information available to us shows that the PDP already has in its kitty close to 50, 000 fake voter’s cards which it plans to distribute to imported mercenaries for use in six local governments on the day of election.”
