With the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) underway in Abuja on Saturday, December 9, 2017, one of the chairmanship aspirants, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has appealed for support from Governor Ben Ayade and Cross River delegates to the convention.
Dokpesi, who paid a courtesy visit to the Governor, yesterday and was received by the full session of the State Executive Council, restated his resolve to reposition the PDP if voted as the national chairman.
“The purpose of our visit is to intimate you, as the leader of our party, about our aspiration to serve as the national chairman of our great party, the PDP. I am here to seek your support and the support of members of the party in Cross River State.
“The vision you have and the project you have started need to stabilise and move forward, you need PDP Chairman that shares in your vision and is ready to give necessary support and attract the federal government’s support for Cross River state. I want to be at the national PDP office, working closely with you to help actualise your vision.
Describing the 2015 general elections as a disaster for the party, the aspirant said “although we lost the elections in 2015, Cross River has remained a PDP State; I congratulate you for this feat. It is time to look at why we fail and prepare ourselves for 2019. We must get our party re-engineered, rebranded, rejuvenated and reconstructed in such a manner that we can get back the presidency.
“In order to achieve this, we need a chairman of the party who is courageous, visionary and has the will and capacity to lead the party out of the doldrums. In rebranding the party, I stand tall above others with connections across the nation. We must put new wine in new bottle and not in old bottle. I offer myself as that the man who has all what he takes to lead the party back to Aso Rock,” he stated.
Responding, Governor Ben Ayade lauded High Chief Dokpesi for using his media platforms, the AIT and Raypower FM, to promote activities of the Cross River State government, saying the way Dopkesi spoke indicated his preparedness to transform the PDP. He prayed God to grant Chief Dokpesi his desires.
