PDP chieftain stresses importance of peace

Ahead of next year’s general elections, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Otunba Abdulrasheed Suraj, has urged leaders of the All Peoples Congress (APC) to mind its business and leave the PDP alone on its comment on why President Goodluck Jonathan is the sole candidate of the party.
Otunba Suraj, who spoke on various issues with selected journalists in Abuja, recently, condemned incisive statements by some political leaders, especially the opposition towards the 2015 general elections.

He said: “Any sincere observer will see the rapid development taking place in the country today due to the commitment of the government of President Jonathan.
He advised those disparaging and abusing the President that there is no substitute for having substantive policies on how to govern Nigeria.

“Under President Jonathan administration, it has been possible to identify the salutary effect of the subsidy removal on the well-being of the people against past governments when subsidies were removed.
“With the drastic reduction of the petroleum subsidy in 2012, government created the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Program (SURE-P.) This was designed to invest the savings accruing from, the subsidy reduction in critical infrastructure and human resource empowerment projects across the length and breadth of the country.”
He advised the opposition to give kudos to President Jonathan for reviving the railway system, among others.
“The railways system that had been comatose for 30 years which Jonathan has been able to revive within two years. Yet the opposition never saw anything good in the present administration just because of their hunger for power.”
On the visit by party leaders to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Otunba Suraj commended those who visited him, saying that Obasanjo is an elder statesman that deserves to be consulted on topical national issues.
